More than 600 Year 5 students are set to attend the second annual Aspirations Day later this year to get a sense of what opportunities await them in secondary school and beyond.

Term 4 will see most of our “senior” students from Greater Shepparton’s 28 primary schools exposed to a range of experiences in science, media, the arts and much more during an immersive day of career exploration.

“Most Year 5 students are not of an age where they know what they want to do in life or what they need to achieve to get there,” Senior Project Officer Jenni Gibson said.

“But they are certainly old enough to have big ideas,” she said. “Aspirations Day is about ensuring our young people know there is a pathway to whatever their dream job may be.”

Aspirations Day will see students exposed to a range of future possible career ideas through real-world experiences and diverse hands-on activities at Greater Shepparton Secondary College.

It is among a range of initiatives our primary school principals and educators are working on behind-the-scenes on as part of the Shepparton Education Plan.

“Aspirations Day involves a wide range of industry, education and community leaders,” Ms Gibson said.

“They will have fun and creative learning activities for students to experiment, explore and sample a range of potential occupations and education pathways.”

The Shepparton Education Plan has four stages – Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Higher Education and Skills. The Primary Education stage of the plan is aimed at improving student wellbeing, learning and confidence.

“The key to success in the Primary Education stage is ensuring our young people enter secondary school with big dreams – and knowing that they can achieve those dreams.”
