Establishing itself as a prominent player in the composting industry, Western Composting Technology (WCT) has maintained a strong commitment to quality and sustainability.
Over the course of 15 years, WCT has developed processes and continues their dedication to producing premium-quality compost while serving four local government areas. Their steadfast focus has allowed them to evolve and grow, adapting to the changing needs and demands of the community.
WCT primarily utilises kerb-side FOGO (Food Organics, Garden Organics) waste as their feedstock, and this has been a key driver of their growth. The introduction of food organics into their processing has resulted in a substantial increase in both input and output. To meet the rising demand for compost production, WCT expanded its capital investment by adding two additional In Vessel Tunnels in 2019 and is currently operating a five tunnel system.

One noteworthy achievement is that WCT has successfully processed over 28,000 tonnes of green waste annually, all while staying within the parameters of its EPA (Environmental Protection Authority) footprint and layout. This achievement not only reflects their commitment to environmental responsibility but has also led to the growth of their locally employed workforce as they continue to provide high quality compost to a strong local market.
Perhaps the most significant development in WCT’s journey is their selection as the preferred tender for a new facility within the City of Greater Bendigo. This expansion project aims to replicate the size and capacity of their current facility in Shepparton, marking a substantial step forward in their operations.
What sets WCT apart is their unwavering dedication to producing high-quality compost. As expressed by John Wilson, the operations manager, their mission extends beyond merely diverting green waste from landfills. They are deeply passionate about the quality of their compost and its positive, sustainable impact on the environment. WCT’s vision is centered on providing the best quality compost available in the market whilst maintaining sustainable processes and leaving a positive imprint on the environment.
