THE Victorian Club Autocross Series State Championships are set to take place in Shepparton on October 10 after bad weather caused it to be postponed.
The Shepparton District Car Club (SDCC) is set to welcome competitors from across Victoria as the region plays host for a round of the autocross series.
The event will see a mix of competitors from all age brackets and experience levels take to the local car club tracks to compete for points as the season progresses.
SDCC President Justin Aylett discusses the importance this round plays for both the region and the car club.
“It’s a pretty good event for the club, it helps get the word out about us while also bringing people into the town, especially since people aren’t really getting out there and spending money anymore, it’s good to show them that there are fun, affordable things to do,” he explained.
“Our track is more in the bush and provides a different experience than others in this series. Our spectators can watch on from the clubhouse, the pits and the start track, so there is plenty to see.”
SDCC treasurer and events secretary Greg Jaeschke further explains the greater significance of this day.
“We tend to host this state round once a year, which brings in competitors from all over the state.”
“We were supposed to host this round a month ago, but it was unfortunately cancelled due to bad weather. Before we had to reschedule this event, we had 42 entries, so we’re hoping to have a similar turnout for the new date,” he explained.
The SDCC is run by many generous volunteers who take time out of their weeks to prep the club and track for events like this.
“A lot of the members of our club volunteer to help get the track and facilities ready all on their own time after work and on the weekends, they help out with things like rolling the track and getting the facilities ready for spectators,” Greg said.
“Being one of the bigger events for the club, it puts a lot of money into the club, and since a lot of people travel in for this event and stay in local accommodation, it supports businesses in the area, so it’s good for the community.”
