Getting back to the Office, but why?

A message from Michael Milburn

There’s been a lot of commentary lately about getting employees back into the workplace, just like pre-pandemic times. The conversation has been Melbourne focussed as there is a lot at stake economically to get people back into the city.

So, what should regional employers do?

My advice is do what works for your business and the people that you employ. Don’t be too quick to get back to the “good old days”.

We know that quality people are hard to find and at the moment there is a lot of work out there, it’s definitely an employee’s market.

Flexible working arrangements are a huge benefit for your employees to keep them happy and motivated. Regional employers that I have spoken with talk about productive gains, employees having more autonomy to manage their workloads and the flow on benefits of a true work life balance.

But then there’s the old school thought about if you can’t see them, what are they up to?

Trust the work, if the work is getting done, then no issue. If the work is not getting done, then that’s a different conversation.
