WITH 30 years of experience behind them, a small business in Shepparton has expanded and established themselves as a dominant player in keeping the roof over our heads and the weather out.

John Brain began in business in 1996, like many small tradesmen, working out of his home office and building his credentials in the field.

The region maintains a great number of heritage homes that need regular maintenance and for many, the lifespan of their roof reaches a point where it needs to be replaced.

John Brain saw the opportunity and capitalised on it. The company now has a dozen team members working to restore the roofs on some of these beautiful older homes, returning them back to their former glory with some of the more inspiring materials, metal profiles and colours now available.

“We specialise in bespoke architectural renovations,” said co-business owner, Peter Sanders at their large factory/warehouse.

“Some of these homes go back over 100 years or more and provide some interesting challenges when the time comes to renovate them, particularly in keeping them consistent with their heritage construction and style.”

Peter manages the quotes and the office while his partner, Luke Chambers, manages the tradesmen on site. Peter and Luke took over the company when John Brain retired in 2013.

The firm operates over a large region encompassing the Goulburn Valley and its neighbouring areas.

The impetus provided by the governments over the last year has seen an increase in renovation work which, for like many companies, also puts pressure on finding the right staff to keep pace and train new entrants for the work.

“We manage by working harder,” said Peter. “At the moment, it doesn’t look like it will slow down for some time yet.”
