EVERY degree above 20C on your thermostat can add a further 10 percent to your heating bill, and with an energy crisis looming, here are some other ways to beat the chill and save some funds:

  • Consider how you wash and dry clothes, try to minimise using your dryer if you have one
  • Install solar panels
  • Close the blinds before the night chill sets in, and shut doors to areas you’re not using, and only heat the rooms where you spend the most time
  • Invest in quality insulation
  • Turn off lights and electrical appliances when not in use. Turning off appliances and devices, such as laptops, tablets and computer equipment, at the power point when you’re not using them, instead of leaving them on standby can save even more energy
  • Keep warm with extra blankets and warm clothes when you’re home
